Marchbank Drive residents tackling burglaries

We were very pleased to see a strong turnout from residents of Marchbank Drive, Cheadle at Tuesday’s Area Committee.

Residents on this small road are concerned about the level of burglaries seen on the road over the last few years and the message to burglars is clear: residents are watching out for each other and watching for you, police have stepped up patrols and the community is working together to increase security. The move by neighbourhood police to the Police Post in Cheadle means officers are now just around the corner and able to respond faster when there’s a problem.

The Lib Dem team were concerned to discover an apparent discrepancy between the residents’ own experience of burglaries and the figures the Police had – we’re chasing this up as it’s important everyone shares a correct understanding of the scale of the issue if we’re to properly tackle it.

A further meeting with residents, police and councillors is planned to move the issue forwards.

I cannot believe what I am reading above, a so called update from Iain Roberts. The police station has been there for years and years as has the estate so the ‘officers’ have been ‘around the corner’ for more than 10 years! Fact is they know household contents are insured and if they are stolen the owners will get them replaced – simple, job done! I don’t care if they or anyone else accepts this but that is a fact. What they will act on (I hope!), although I wouldn’t wish it on anybody is physical assault, GBH or murder – anything else can wait. I have lived through 2 burglaries myself, and the police came and went, then you receive the so called ‘victim support’ which may be OK for some, but its no more than just more words to me. Action is needed and the police will not or cannot or do not want to provide this.

Hi Aleem,

The Police Post has been in Cheadle for years, but it’s been locked and closed for the last few and the police have operated out of the Cheadle Heath police station.

The Neighbourhood Police team have only moved back into the Cheadle Police Post in the last couple of months. Officers have not been based ‘around the corner’ for the last few years, but are now.
