Pizza takeaway on Silverdale Road approved

I’ve been told today that the Planning & Highways Committee approved the application for a new pizza takeaway on the parade of shops by the High Grove pub, Silverdale Road, Gatley.

As I understand it, concerns about odours and litter have been addressed by the applicant and in the conditions applied, so there were no valid grounds to reject it.

Locally I think it’s fair to say opinion is divided.  Some people have told me they’re concerned about another take-away.  Others note that there’s nothing similar nearby and welcome a take-away in that local parade.

Pam and I will, as always, be keeping an eye on developments and looking to ensure there aren’t problems with litter, smells, parking or traffic along the road.

I don’t know if you’re in a position to comment but I can’t fathom the logic that turns down an application to open a pizza takeaway in the “parade” on Church Road, yet approves a pizza takeaway for the “parade” here. I’m not suggesting which decision is out of kilter just that one appears to be.

Are applications being approved/rejected without going before the Area Committee ?

Phil – this one went to the last area committee. The committee felt a site visit would be appropriate, after which the decision always gets taken by Planning & Highways Committee rather than coming back to Cheadle Area Committee.

John – each application has to be considered on its merits. For example, there’s a policy about not having too many take-aways in one area of shops which might stop another one opening on Church Road but obviously wouldn’t prevent one opening on Silverdale Road where there’s nothing similar anywhere nearby.

I live at no 53 silverdale and never received a letter about the planning permission I only found out from a neighbour. Most of the neighbours are opposed to it so hopefully business will be slow and they will close down it’s not like the highgrove pub is full of youngsters on a weekend who would use it and there are plenty of take aways in galley and heald green so fingers crossed this will only be a temporary nuisance.
