North West hosepipe ban starts on Friday

From this Friday, 9th July, a hosepipe ban will be in force across the North West (with a few exceptions for some parts of Cumbria).

We won’t be able to use hosepipes or sprinklers, whether for the garden, washing the car or whatever else.

This is, we’re told, in response to the dryest first six months of the year since records began.

Here’s a 3 minute You Tube video from United Utilities putting their case and explaining the ban.

Very disapointing that United Utilities can’t manage the situation after the worst winter for sometime

We have been paying over the rate of inflation in our water bills for years yet we still have a water company less effective than when it we owned by the local authority

If we need more water to service the customers build new resevouires or make the ones we have bigger its unfortunate that with agrowing population this has not been thought through they have paid share holders well all these years but as soon as they are called on to supply what they are paid to do they are found to be whanting

I trust the Directors will not be getting a bonus this year !

It’s funny how we never seem to have enout water and ever year it seems that the resevouires get low and then the council approve the building of yet more homes putting the exisitin infrastructure under great preasure, on Oak road in cheadle an extra house has been added and in the last year an extra house has been built on Brookfield road. perhapse a freeze on building should be introduced until adequate facilities are built. funny how the south of Englad copes with greater housing and less rain fall.

Yes, the water companies could and should do more. However, many people use far more water than they need to and hosepipes allow waste without much effort. Have you seen the guys at Sainsbury’s washing cars without a hose? They do a splendid job in my experience. We could all learn something from them. A few expeditions round the garden with a watering can won’t do us any harm either.
