Hosepipe ban looms for North West

United Utilities are saying that there’s likely to be a hosepipe ban across the North West, including Greater Manchester, unless we get significant rainfall in the next week or so.

Apparently, the first six months of this year have seen the region’s lowest rainfall for over 70 years and the reservoirs are running low.  Some of this shortfall can be made up by diverting water from lakes and rivers, but we’re being told we need to be using less water too.

Iain, I actually wrote to the Meterological office a couple of months ago with a photo of dry, cracking ground on Brookfield. I said all they’d mentioned for weeks was rain in various places but nothing about the dry conditions pertaining to the North West. I actually had a reply saying a hosepipe ban was unlikely as due to the wet winter and full reservoirs, there would be plenty of water!!!!
