I’ve received this request from the police:
On the evening of Saturday 17/04/10 a number of student from Kingsway School were attacked in an unprovoked manner by a large number of youths from Wythenshawe. Some of the injuries are serious. The police have increased patrols around the school and the park, and are also working very closely with the Police Officers from the Wythenshawe Division.
Please can we ask that if any resident sees groups of youths in the area of Gatley/Cheadle who look intent on causing fights report this to the police asap. Also if anyone has any information with regards to this incident or planned future incident that this is communicated to us asap.

I’m glad you are aware of this incident, which my family became aware of through friends who had a young relative on the receiving end. It is very disturbing and we wish those injured a speedy recovery.
I would liek to make a request for a review of provision of 4 CCTV cameras at the styal road junctions of Lomond Road, Hollyhedge Road, Church Road and Altrincham Road.
This isn’t a knee jerk reaction. Christmas 2008 I saw police stationed in similar locations on Styal Road and was advised by one officer on duty that “we’re here to stop that lot of there[indicating Wythenshawe] robbing that lot over there [indicating Gatley/Cheadle]“.
The vast majority of people in Wythenshawe are good, hard working folk, but regrettably it’s fact that the place also plays host to more than its fair share of problem people. Something needs doing.
On a more positive note, the polls are looking great. Good luck for the 6th. You have our vote!
