Work to start on Gatley Bridge, by Gatley Hill

Here’s what I’ve been told about works on Gatley Bridge, at the bottom of Gatley Hill on Church Road:

Waterproofing and repair works are due to commence at the above bridge on 19th April.

The waterproofing works will be carried out in two stages with two phase signals on Styal Road and Church Road. A single lane of traffic will be provided on Church Road at all times. The traffic management will be manually operated during peak hours to ensure that excessive queues do not form. The contract duration is 8 weeks.

The principal contractor undertaking the works is Bethell Construction Ltd.

Iain, this is clearly not working as planned. The queue on Styal Road last night (29/4), towards Hollyhedge and beyond, was considerable and there was nobody manning the lights at the junction. Both other approaches were clear.
The residents of Gatley can’t be expected to put up with this for 8 weeks or more.
Furthermore, the buses will not be running to timetable either.
This must be resolved before we are subjected to weeks of delays.

I agree. I sat for half an hour in 1.5 mile queue on Styal Rd (Heald Grn to Gatley direction) at 6.15pm last night. The temp lights were un-manned and there was chaos with cars executing 3 point turns on Styal Rd to find an alternative route. There was one car waiting on Church road yet 50 or 60 in Styal. Only 3 cars were getting through each change of lights and at stages, multiple cars were going through the red right in an attempt to get the traffic moving. This has happened on 2 nights out of 4. I tried to call the council to complain but no-one answers phones out of hours.
