Wensley & Wensleydale to get new pavements

Pam King and I have been putting the case for Wensley Road and Wensleydale Road in Cheadle to have their pavements properly redone for quite a while, and I’ve now had confirmation that both roads will be done in this coming financial year.

I’m very pleased about this.  Not only are the pavements in particularly poor condition, but there are a lot of elderly people living in the area for whom the pavements cause real problems.

Of course there are many other pavements that need attention too, and we’ll continue to press for those to be done.  These are difficult time, financially, but the Lib Dems have been able to find money for work on local roads that makes at least some of these fixes possible.

Are paving flags to be re-instated,please, as the residents have said they wish, particularly in view of our experience in Richmond Hill Road.

I don’t know, but I’d be quite surprised if it was paving stones. They tend to get broken easily with all the cars and heavy lorries parking on them, leading to a pavement that’s in bad condition pretty quickly.

The Farmers Arms junction at Cheadle Heath us receiving all new paving and very good it looks too. Iain, I’m glad other streets are being ‘refreshed’ but I can’t believe they are worse than High Grove Rd; they must be the worst pavements in the borough. When you have a moment please have a look and prioritise if you agree.

Hi Alan,

I agree High Grove Road is bad – as are a few others. I would put Wensley and Wensleydale higher as they’ve got more trip hazards with uneven paving stones, but it’s certainly in the next tranche as far as I’m concerned.
