Faulty streetlights reported

Oh, the high powered life of a local councillor.  Yesterday afternoon I had a two hour introductory session on local government finance, then last evening I walked around Gatley, visiting a couple of people,  and spotted some streetlamps that aren’t working.  If only I’d taken photos, I might have featured on the wonderful glum councillors website.

Anyway, here’s the list.  If it’s just a faulty bulb they should be fixed within a few days – it may take longer if the fault is something more serious.

1. Lamp outside 14/16 Coniston Road, Gatley

2. Lamp outside 200 Kingsway, Gatley (marked “59″)

3. Lamp outside 8/10 Torkington Road, Gatley

4. Lamp outside 12 Springfield Road, Gatley

It is appropriate from time to time to remind people that items requiring maintenance can be reported to streetscene@stockport.gov.uk There appears to be an efficient system of prioritising requests and getting the jobs done. This responsive system is surely more efficient than having armies of inspectors patrolling the streets looking for work. As Iain has pointed out, the local population is usually very knowledgeable about what needs to be fixed.

Nevertheless, there are some maintenance items that need to be repeated at regular intervals. Here, it is to be hoped that the Council will identify such items and carry out appropriate maintenance before they get to the state at which members of the public feel the need to report them as faults. For example, hedges between Massie Street car park and Trinity Church and those alongside Manchester Road between Cheadle Green and Parrs Wood require regular maintenance to prevent dangerous obstruction of the footpaths which can cause pedestrians to walk in the roadway.
